Stump Grinding

A cut-down tree is only half gone. The stump keeps your mower swerving, sprouts suckers, invites carpenter ants, and sits exactly where you wanted the shed, the fence line, or plain smooth grass. Grinding is the fast, clean way to finish the job.

Stump grinder working a stump down below grade

What this covers

  • Stumps ground below grade
  • Surface roots chased where needed
  • Chip cleanup and backfill
  • Topsoil and seed to finish the spot
  • Multiple-stump and fence-row discounts on trips

Below grade, not just flush

Cutting a stump flush with a chainsaw leaves a dead disc you will mow around for a decade. Grinding takes the stump and the main root flare down below grade, so the spot can be backfilled with soil, seeded, and forgotten. Once the grass comes in, you will have to look hard to remember where the tree stood.

Cleanup is part of the job

Grinding throws a surprising pile of chips. We rake them out, backfill the hole, and either leave the mulch for your beds or haul it off, your call. We do not leave a mound of chips where the stump used to be.

One stump or a fence row

A single backyard stump is a quick stop. A fence row or old windbreak full of them is a morning. Either way it is the same equipment and the same result, and doing several at once always beats paying for separate trips.

Finish it with seed

Most stump jobs end with topsoil and seed so the lawn heals over in one season instead of three. Since grading and seeding is our bread and butter, that finish work is one call, not two contractors.

Stump Grinding: quick answers

How deep do you grind?

Standard is several inches below grade, enough to backfill, seed, and mow over like the stump was never there. If you are planning to build or pour over the spot, tell us and we will take it deeper.

What happens to the wood chips?

Your choice: we rake them into your beds as mulch, pile them where you want them, or haul them off with the rest of the debris.

Can you get into a backyard?

Usually. Grinders are compact and we are used to working through gates and between buildings. Send a photo of the access and we will tell you straight.
